What is domestic violence?
Family and domestic violence occurs when someone in an intimate or family relationship attempts to gain or maintain power and control over another person. This includes a range of abusive or controlling behaviours, such as:
- Physical abuse
- Psychological abuse
- Emotional abuse
- Financial abuse
- Spiritual abuse
The effects of family and domestic violence
The effects on women and children are profound. Along with the possibility of serious injury or death, women often experience significant mental health issues and/or alcohol and other drug issues and it can have a major impact on their parenting role and functioning.
We provide counselling for women, children and families following violence at our main hub in Rockingham.
